It is really important that you clean your makeup brushes regularly, if you don't wash your brushes then bacteria will build up and when you come to use them, you will most likely break out. You should probably clean your brushes around once a week. In this post, I am going to show you two easy, simple ways to keep your make-up brushes clean.
There are two different ways that you can clean your brushes. The first is by using either soap or shampoo; I have decided to use the Johnson's baby shampoo which I bought from boots at an incredibly low price. The alternative which may be a bit more cost worthy is a make-up brush cleanser. I reccomend using the No7 brush cleanser which I picked up from boots for around £8.
Cleaning Your Brushes Using Soap/Shampoo
To begin with, I just like to run my brushes under some cold water. However, make sure that during any part of this process, you make sure that you don't turn your brushes so that the bristles are facing up. This will cause the water to run down the brush and corrode the glue which will make the bristles fall out.
Next, you want to squeeze a small amount off soap/shampoo into the palm of your hand, depending on how big the brush is. If you are cleaning a powder brush for example, you would need more than if you were cleaning an eye shadow brush.
After this, swirl the brush around in the soap or shampoo to get any dirt off.
Then, just simply pat the brush with a towel to remove any excess water still making sure that you don't hold it upright.
After this, all you need to do is place the brush on a paper towel preferably near a window so it can dry. Also, if you are cleaning a big fluffy brush or a brush that has a particular shape like an angled brush, simply tear off a piece of paper towel and wrap it round the bristles to keep them in place.
Cleaning Your Brushes Using Brush Cleanser
First of all, pump some of the solution onto a paper towel again the amount depends on the size of the brush.
After this, swirl the brush around on the paper towel to remove the bacteria and dirt.
Then, just to make sure that all the dirt has been removed, run it under some cold water and then repeat the last two steps of cleaning with soap/shampoo.
Conclusion
In my opinion, I prefer to use the soap/shampoo option simply because it seems to remove more dirt and even though it may take slightly longer, the results are worth it.
